Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (16-21) kicked off a three game series with the visiting Asheville Tourists (18-17) Monday evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
The Tourists got off to a 2-0 lead, however GreenJackets starter Michael Santos pitched well the whole game. The reigning Pitcher of the Week pitched eight innings, striking out five, while only allowing one walk. The ninth inning featured excitement when touted prospect Lucius Fox started the rally with a walk. Jalen Miller would walk, and both would come around to score and tie the game thanks to another former Player of the Week, Matt Winn's 2-RBI triple.
The potential win 90 feet away, the GreenJackets stranded the runner and the game headed for extra innings. In the 12th inning Asheville scored on a go-ahead RBI single by Yonathan Daza.
GreenJackets reliever Tyler Cyr pitched the final four innings out of the bullpen. He struck out four, only allowing one walk. Cyr took the loss.
The GreenJackets return back to action Tuesday night for the middle game of this three game series with the Asheville Tourists. First pitch is 7:05pm and gates will open to fans starting at 6:00pm. It's Tuesday Brewsday, featuring half-priced draft beers and fountain drinks all night long! It's also Strike Out Stroke Night Presented by American Heart Association and Augusta University, and it's Teacher Appreciation Night.
The projected pitching matchup is David Hill (2-2, 4.35 ERA) versus Phil Bickford (1-3, 3.41 ERA).
The 28th consecutive season of professional baseball in Augusta is underway. All GreenJackets Ticket Plans (including Full, Half, and Weekend and the all-new 6-Game Flex Plans) and individual tickets are on sale now.
