Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Hagerstown erased a six-run deficit, scoring three times in the sixth and three in the seventh in coming back to top the BlueClaws 12-9 on Monday night at Municipal Stadium. Rhett Wiseman's two-run single off Jake Waguespack put the Suns ahead as they snapped the BlueClaws six-game winning streak.
In addition to seeing their six-game winning streak (their longest since 2013) snapped, the BlueClaws (15-21) fell to 0-7 against Hagerstown (24-12) this year.
Wiseman's single came after he was trying to bunt, but Deivi Grullon made a throwing error after a ball in the dirt to move runners to second and third. The bunt sign came off, and Wiseman delivered the single that put the Suns ahead for good. Hagerstown had scored three runs in the sixth, with one scoring on a mis-played rundown which could have resulted in an out at home plate. Victor Robles' RBI single made it 9-8 and Jake Waguespack, who came on for Arteaga, balked in the tying run.
Waguespack (3-1) took the loss while Matthew Crownover (4-1), who gave up one run in 4.1 innings of relief, earned the win.
The BlueClaws jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead, scoring three times on a Damek Tomscha RBI double and again on a wild pitch in the opening frame off Andrew Lee.
Josh Tobias added his fourth home run of the year in the second inning to put the BlueClaws up 5-0. Jakson Reetz took starter Jose Taveras deep in the bottom of the second inning to slice the lead to 5-2, before the BlueClaws added three runs in the third - on a two-run Jiandido Tromp double and an RBI double by Emmanuel Marrero.
The BlueClaws would push the lead to 8-2 before the Suns began their comeback, scoring twice in the third (on a Jakson Reetz two-run home run) and fourth off Jose Taveras. Taveras came out after five, allowing six runs, four earned.
Every BlueClaws starter had at least one hit in the game, with Emmanuel Marrero, Josh Tobias, Wilson Garcia, and Damek Tomscha having two hits. Tomscha drove in three runs while Jiandido Tromp drove in two.
The six-run lost lead was the largest blown lead by the BlueClaws in a game this season.
The teams continue their series on Tuesday night at 7:05. LHP Tyler Gilbert (1-3) starts for Lakewood againts RHP Pedro Avila (1-2).
