Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers scored four runs over the third and fourth innings, while holding the Salt Lake Bees scoreless through six innings, on the way to a 4-1 win Thursday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
With the victory, the Dodgers (38-24) evened their three-game series against the Bees, 1-1, in front of a crowd of 5,015.
Oklahoma City entered the game with the best home winning percentage in the Minors and improved to 24-7 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in 2018.
Three doubles and a RBI single in the third inning gave the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.
Jake Peter doubled to center field to lead off the inning for Oklahoma City and came around to score on a one-out RBI double to center field by Andrew Toles. Henry Ramos followed with a RBI double to right field to score Toles for a 2-0 advantage for the Dodgers. Alex Verdugo followed with a RBI single into center field for a 3-0 Oklahoma City lead.
Peter connected on a RBI single into center field in the fourth inning to extend the Dodgers' lead to 4-0.
Salt Lake (39-28) broke through the shutout in the seventh inning.
With two outs and Sherman Johnson on second base in the seventh inning, Salt Lake's Julian Leon hit a grounder into left field. Oklahoma City's Andrew Toles fielded the ball and threw home, but Johnson just beat the throw to get Salt Lake on the board with what ended up as the Bees' lone run of the night.
The Dodgers had allowed 63 runs so far in June entering Thursday night's game - third-most in the PCL behind Las Vegas (92) and New Orleans (66). Thursday marked the first time since a 1-0 loss at Nashville May 26 the Dodgers held an opponent to fewer than two runs in a game.
Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Pill (2-1) set the early tone and threw five shutout innings, allowing four hits with one walk and four strikeouts as he picked up his second win of the season with Oklahoma City.
Reliever J.T. Chargois followed with a scoreless and hitless sixth inning and Pat Venditte allowed one run over two frames.
Joe Broussard threw a perfect ninth inning for his fifth save of the season with the Dodgers.
Salt Lake starting pitcher Sean Isaac (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing all four Dodgers runs on six hits over 3.1 innings.
Peter, Ramos, Toles and Verdugo each led the Dodgers with two hits and a RBI apiece. Peter, Ramos and Toles also each scored a run for Oklahoma City.
The Dodgers and Bees continue their series at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Fireworks, presented by Oklahoma Blood Institute, are scheduled to follow the game.
