Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The seventh Fresno Grizzlies homestand of the 2018 season is scheduled for June 21 through June 23 with four games against the Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado Rockies). Tickets may be purchased at the Chukchansi Park box office, or anytime at FresnoGrizzlies.com, starting as low as $10. Here is a preview of the promotional schedule:
Thursday, June 21 (7:05 p.m.) - "Coming To Fresno" presented by the Fresno/Clovis Convention & Visitors Bureau:
Thursday Happy Hour Special: The best food deal in Triple-A is back for 2018! At every Thursday home game from gates open (6:00 p.m.) to first pitch, fans can order a burger, fries and a 12-ounce beer or soda for just FIVE DOLLARS.
2018 marks the 30th anniversary of the Eddie Murphy-led film Coming to America, and the Fresno Grizzlies will pay homage to the milestone with "Coming to Fresno" Night. Except, the "Fresno Grizzlies" will technically have the night off, as the Houston Astros' Triple-A club will play for one game as the "Zamunda Lions" with the uniforms to match (see attached images).
Fans of the movie will have plenty of chances to re-live its greatness, transported back to either the fictional African country, or Queens, New York where the bulk of the movie took place:
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL, WHAT IS THAT, VELVET?: Perhaps the most-quoted line from Coming to America goes unanswered by King Jaffe Joffer, so to tie that up, no, velvet would be a little too robust for the players to wear in the mid-June Central California heat. But the game-worn Zamunda Lions jerseys will be available for fans to bid on in an online auction beginning the following day, with the winners receiving their on-field jersey autographed by the player. Jersey auction proceeds will benefit United Way Fresno and Madera Counties.
THEY GOT THE BIG THE MAC, WE GOT THE BIG MICK: This won't be just another game where you grab a burger and fries. One concession stand will be transformed into "McDowell's" for one night only, a tribute to the Queens Boulevard fast food joint owned by Lisa's dad Cleo McDowell in Coming to America. Just so there's no confusion with another restaurant of some renown, they have the golden arches, Chukchansi Park has the golden archs. Their buns have sesame seeds, the buns in Fresno have no seeds. Fans will be able to buy "Big Micks" made to order and fries at McDowell's inside the ballpark throughout the game (see attached images).
NOW PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER FOR...Speaking of temporary name changes, the phenomenal area cover band "The Box" will be performing pre-game, post-game and between innings, as Randy Watson's band "Sexual Chocolate." What a beautiful crowd...give yourselves a round of applause.
Zamunda Lions and "Coming To Fresno" apparel and merchandise will also be available in the Fresno Grizzlies Team Store during the game, including replica jerseys and the on-field New Era 59/50 cap.
Friday, June 22 (7:05 p.m.) - The Princess Ball, presented by Expo Party Rentals: Taking place in the Cantina on the third base/left field side of Chukchansi Park, eight or more of your favorite movie princesses will be at the event, so be sure mom and dad's cell phones are fully charged for all the photo ops! The Princess Ball will include a special light up dance floor and princess sing-alongs...the most magical night of the year! Tickets to the game will be FREE for kids 12 and under in princess or make-believe costumes (receive tickets at the box office). Postgame fireworks will follow the action on the field, presented by CoBank.
Farmer's Market: On the concourse pre-game and during the game, presented by GAR Tootelian.
Saturday, June 23 (Doubleheader, 5:05 p.m.) - "Wonder Dogs" 10-year anniversary celebration: Two seven-inning games will have a roughly 30-minute break in-between. In Game 2 of the doubleheader, the Grizzlies will be wearing tribute jerseys and caps to the 2008 NCAA Division I Baseball National Champions, the "underdogs to "Wonder Dogs" Fresno State Bulldogs, as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their win in the College World Series. In-between games, members of the 2008 Fresno State national title team will be honored on the field.
The game-worn WonderDogs tribute jerseys (see attached image) will be available for bid in a silent auction during the game, with winners receiving their autographed jersey right from the player who wore it, on the field, following the game. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
WonderDogs apparel, including replica jerseys and the on-field New Era 59/50 cap will also be available in the Fresno Grizzlies Team Store during the game. The celebration of Fresno State Athletics will include former Bulldog football player and current Detroit Lions offensive lineman Kenny Wiggins signing autographs during the game.
