Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WIS. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels shut out the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 4-0, behind scoreless pitching Tuesday from Randy Dobnak and Jovani Moran at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Cedar Rapids (11-2, 43-39) picked up its Midwest League-leading 10th shutout victory within Tuesday's triumph over Wisconsin (4-8, 35-46).
Dobnak (6-2) matched a career high with seven strikeouts over 7.2 innings pitched to pick up his team-high sixth win. Dobnak faced the minimum through the fifth inning and did not allow any baserunners to advance past second base during the contest.
Moran struck out all four batters faced in relief to complete Cedar Rapids' 4-0 shutout. Moran fanned Darren Seferina in the eighth to strand an inherited runner, and he struck out the side in the ninth to end the game.
Cedar Rapids secured a 3-0 lead within the top of the second. Robby Rinn singled to open the inning and scored from first base on an RBI double from Andrew Bechtold. Trey Cabbage followed with a single and later scored along with Bechtold during Jordan Gore's two-run double.
Jose Miranda added the final tally in the seventh inning. After Jacob Pearson's one-out walk and Royce Lewis' double, Miranda hit a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Pearson to come home.
Dylan File (5-5) took the loss Tuesday for Wisconsin despite a quality start. File conceded three runs over six innings pitched while posting a team-high five strikeouts.
This four-game "home-and-home" series continues Wednesday at 5:05 p.m. in Cedar Rapids. The probable pitchers are Kernels right-hander Edwar Colina (3-2, 3.24) and Timber Rattlers right-hander Nelson Hernández (8-5, 4.68). Fans unable to attend Wednesday's game can follow the action on 1450 KMRY AM and 93.1 KMRY FM and also online at www.kmryradio.com, www.kernels.com, and MiLB.TV.
The first 1,000 fans through the gates Wednesday will receive a Military Heroes Baseball Card Set courtesy of Dave Wright Subaru. Patriotic sunglasses, presented by Cost Cutters, will also be handed out to the first 1,000 fans. Dave Wright Subaru sponsors special patriotic Kernels jerseys that will be worn during the game and auctioned off at the ballpark to benefit the ALS Association - Iowa Chapter. There will be Face Painting by Kennedy at the contest as well. A postgame ceremony honoring the individuals in this year's Military Heroes Baseball Card Set will be followed by postgame fireworks.
