Andueza's Strong Start Not Enough in Loss to Quad Cities

Beloit, WI - A pitcher's duel in Beloit ended in favor of the Quad Cities River Bandits (46-36), as they downed the Beloit Snappers (37-43) 4-2 on Monday night before 816 fans at Pohlman Field.
Although Beloit lefty Ivan Andueza (0-4, 4.12 ERA) posted one of his stronger starts of the season, all five of the hits against him were doubles, allowing Quad Cities to jump out to an early lead.
Andueza was in trouble immediately to start the top of the second inning when Logan Mattix led off with a double. He rebounded to retire the next two batters and should have escaped unscathed, but a fielding error from shortstop Nick Allen, the Athletics' No. 12 prospect, allowed Mattix to score and it was 1-0.
Quad Cities struck again in the fourth with back-to-back doubles from Mattix and Colton Shaver extending their lead to 2-0. Another double from Scott Schreiber later in the frame gave the River Bandits their third run, and a 3-0 edge.
The Snappers answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning: Athletics No. 5 prospect Austin Beck's RBI double drove in No. 6 prospect Lazaro Armenteros before Jesus Lopez added an RBI double.
On the night, Beck was 2-2 with two walks, reaching base safely in all four at bats.
The River Bandits tacked on one more in the eighth. The Astros first-round pick in the 2018 draft, Seth Beer, led off with a double. Shaver drove him in with a single, the only Quad Cities hit on the night that didn't go for extra bases. The Snappers tied their season high of doubles allowed with six.
Andueza's night ended after 6 2/3 innings, tied for his longest start of the season. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits while walking none and striking out a season-high seven batters.
Quad Cities right-hander Luis Rodriguez (3-1, 3.67 ERA) also had a solid start, surrendering two runs on four hits in five innings. He walked none and struck out five. The Snappers had more chances for damage against righty Cesar Rosado, who earned the four-inning save. Despite Rosado's command issues- he walked four- the Snappers were unable to convert with runners on base in the late innings.
Beloit is now 13-33 on the season when the opponent scores first. They also have at least one extra-base hit in all 11 games out of the break.
The Snappers will pick up game two of the split series on Tuesday at Pohlman Field before Beloit heads to Quad Cities for the final two games of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and on the mound for the Snappers will be right-hander Mitchell Jordan (2-2, 2.73). Starting for the River bandits will be right-hander Jairo Solis (0-3, 3.10).
Tuesday will be a Salute To Heroes night, Jersey Auction and Fireworks, presented by Huntley Fan Club, Bolgrien, Koepke, Kines & Livingston, and Wisconsin National Guard.
The Snappers will be wearing a special Fourth of July uniform and each player's uniform will be eligible to be bid upon in an auction during the game. Call in bidding starts at 10:00 p.m. and will go to 5:00 p.m. Bidding will resume at 6:00 p.m. when gates open and go until the fifth inning. Bidding will start at $75.
Names of the winners will be posted on the side of the office. Shortly after the conclusion of the game, a brief fireworks show will be held behind center field and fans are invited to remain in their seats to watch.
