West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps were dominant with the bats in beating the Lansing Lugnuts Tuesday in front of 7,350 fans at Fifth Third Ballpark by a score of 8-4.
The "Caps bats came alive in the late innings. Garrett McCain enjoyed a night to remember going 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and a spectacular diving catch in left field. Second baseman Kody Clemens also picked up his first RBI as a Whitecap on a run-scoring single.
The Lugnuts jumped ahead 2-0 in the early innings featuring a Jesus Navarro solo shot in the fifth. "Caps outfielder Dylan Rosa countered with his seventh long ball this year drawing the lead to 2-1. Catcher Brady Policelli joined in on the long-range festivities with a two-run shot to left field in the sixth to bring the score to 3-2. Owen Spiwak followed with a two-run single to put Lansing on top, 4-3. However, the "Caps struck back with a five-run seventh highlighted by McCain's two-RBI-triple placing the game on ice and ending a five-game losing skid.
Whitecaps starter Dane Myers (3-1) tossed 5.1 innings allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out six in a no-decision, while Lansing pitcher Maximo Castillo (7-2) pitched five innings permitting three runs on five hits and striking out five. Will Vest (3-1) earned his third win with 3.2 innings while allowing two unearned runs. With the victory, the Whitecaps advance to 42-41 on the year, while the Lugnuts drop to 53-30.
