Dayton Dragons News Release
Eastlake, Ohio - Four Lake County pitchers combined to allow just six hits and Jose Medina hit a two-run home run to lead the Captains to a 3-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Tuesday night. With the win, the Captains split the brief two-game set in Eastlake. The series will move to Dayton for games Wednesday and Thursday nights.
The Dragons finished their six-game road trip with a 3-3 record. They opened the trip by splitting four games in South Bend.
Lake County scored all the runs they would need in the second inning, pushing three runs across to take an early lead. Captains starting pitcher Juan Hillman tossed five scoreless innings before turning it over to the bullpen.
The Dragons trailed 3-0 before scoring two runs in the seventh to pull to within a run. Mark Kolozsvary walked to start the inning and advanced to third on Mitch Piatnik's double to left. Jose Garcia's ground out brought in Kolozsvary, and Andy Sugilio's ground out scored Piatnik to make it 3-2.
The Dragons had a chance to tie the game or take the lead in the eighth. With one out, Malik Collymore reached on an infield single, and he advanced to third on a two-out single by J.D. Williams. Williams stole second to put runners at second and third, but Kolozsvary struck out to end the threat. The Dragons were retired in order in the ninth inning.
Dragons starter Tyler Mondile had a rough second inning but bounced back to give his team a chance to win. Mondile lasted five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts. He suffered the loss and fell to 2-7. Dragons relievers Connor Bennett, Jesse Adams, and Wendolyn Bautista combined for three scoreless innings in relief of Mondile.
The Dragons six-hit attack was led by Piatnik, who had a double in the two-run seventh inning, and Collymore, who had two infield singles.
