Devils Win Wild One in Jersey

NEWARK, N.J. - The Albany Devils used three power play goals to outlast the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 5-3 on Wednesday night at Prudential Center.

Paul Thompson, Stefan Matteau and Joe Whitney all tallied with the man advantage to help Albany past Bridgeport. The Sound Tigers got a power play goal of their own, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome.

The Devils controlled play at the start of the game and were rewarded for their efforts. With Reece Scarlett skating in on a 2-on-1, the defenseman fired low into the pads of Kevin Poulin. The Sound Tigers netminder kicked out the rebound but sent it right to Ben Thomson, who slammed it home for his fifth of the season, making it 1-0.

Albany got another goal from a Thompson, but it was leading scorer Paul Thompson who got the next one. With Jesse Graham in the box for interference, Thompson batted the puck out of mid-air and past Poulin for the first power play goal of the game. Thompson's 20th of the season was also his eighth of the year against the Sound Tigers.

Bridgeport got a power play of its own soon after and made sure to capitalize. Sebastian Collberg fed John Persson in the slot and Persson outwaited Scott Clemmensen before ripping a shot over his

Notes: McDonald's short-handed goal was the fifth for the Sound Tigers this season...The Sound Tigers went 5-5-0-0 against the Devils this season...John Persson earned the third star of the game with his two-goal effort.
