Syracuse Crunch Marchessault Named An All-Star, Namestnikov a Starter

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The American Hockey League has announced that Syracuse Crunch forward Jonathan Marchessault has been added to the Eastern Conference All-Star roster. The AHL also announced that forward Vladislav Namestnikov will be in the Eastern Conference's starting lineup while Nikita Nesterov, currently with the Tampa Bay Lightning, will not be available for the game. Namestnikov and Nesterov were named All-Stars Jan. 6. The 2015 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino is Sunday and Monday in Utica, N.Y.

Marchessault, 24, leads the Crunch with 36 points (10g, 26a) in 39 games, tied for fifth in the league. This is the third time in his four-year career that Marchessault has been honored with an AHL All-Star selection. Marchessault has seven multi-point games on the campaign and has points in 27 of his 39 games. He recorded a point in eight straight games, Nov. 1-19, capped by a three-game goal streak.

Through 266 AHL games, the Quebec native has 233 points (78g, 145a) with Connecticut, Springfield and Syracuse. In Calder Cup play, Marchessault has seven points (4g, 3a) in 17 games. Marchessault, undrafted, was acquired by the Tampa Bay Lightning in a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets March 5, 2014.

The AHL Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, to be held in The Showroom at Turning Stone Resort Casino at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, will feature the induction of Frederic Cassivi, James C. Hendy, Bronco Horvath and Art Stratton as the AHL Hall of Fame Class of 2015 and will also celebrate honorary All-Star Classic captains Bill Guerin and Eric Weinrich.

The 2015 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino will feature the top young talent in the American Hockey League: Of the 644 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 94 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Ben Bishop, Ryan Callahan, Zdeno Chara, Logan Couture, Jimmy Howard, Chris Kunitz, Ryan Miller, Gustav Nyquist, Zach Parise, Tuukka Rask, Pekka Rinne, Bobby Ryan, Martin St. Louis, Cory Schneider, Patrick Sharp, Jason Spezza, Eric Staal and P.K. Subban.

After playing eight of nine games on the road, Syracuse plays at home Friday against Lehigh Valley and Saturday versus Hartford.
