Albany Devils News Release
NEWARK, NJ -- The Albany Devils completed their season series against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers with a 5-3 win at Prudential Center on Wednesday. Reece Scarlett, Mike Sislo, Paul Thompson, Joe Whitney and Kelly Zajac each tallied multi-point games as the Devils improve to 19-14-3-5 and finish 5-3-0-2 against the Sound Tigers. Additionally, Albany extended its point streak to four games (3-0-1-0).
The Devils goals seemed to come in waves in front of 3,128 Devil faithful. Ben Thomson opened the scoring at 10:27 in the first and Thompson followed just over a minute later at 11:29. Both goals were rebound tallies off Scarlett shots. Thompson's tally came with the man-advantage.
Bridgeport's John Persson cut into Albany's lead in half with a power-play goal at 16:41 of the first. The Devils responded early in the second. Stefan Matteau followed up on a Darcy Zajac bid at 1:30 of the second on the power play, extending his point streak to four games. Thompson picked up his second goal of the night with a wrister from the face-off dot at 4:06.
Bridgeport was able to pull within one thanks to back-to-back goals before the intermission. Persson netted his second at 4:38 and Colin McDonald scored shorthanded at 12:41.
The Devils regained their cushion with their third power-play goal. Kelly Zajac setup Whitney for a one-timer from the left face-off dot at 5:31 of the third.
In net, Scott Clemmensen stopped 29 of 32 shots faced. Bridgeport's David Leggio relieved Kevin Poulin midway through the second period. The Devils went 3-6 on the power play, giving them eight power-play goals in the last three games.
