Nathan Walker Reassigned to South Carolina
January 21, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - The Hershey Bears announced today that forward Nathan Walker has been reassigned to the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays. The announcement was made by Bears president/general manager Doug Yingst.
Walker, 20, skated in two games with South Carolina last month. He earned his first ECHL assist on December 13 against Greenville, and followed that up with his first ECHL goal - the game-winning goal - on December 14 at Gwinnett. Walker earned third-star honors in the game.
The 5-8, 186-pound forward has recorded four points (one goal, three assists), 30 penalty minutes and a plus-two rating in 28 games with the Bears this season. Adding his total onto his AHL rookie year of 2013-14, Walker has produced 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in 71 games playing in Chocolatetown.
Born in Cardiff, Wales and growing up in Sydney, Australia for most of his life, Walker became the first-ever native of Australia selected in the NHL Entry Draft when the Capitals chose him in the third round (89th overall) this past summer. His AHL debut on October 5, 2013 marked the first time an Australian played in the American Hockey League.
Walker also played with the USHL's Youngstown Phantoms in 2012-13, notching 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists). He also tallied 10 points (four goals, six assists) over parts of two seasons with Vitkovice HC (Czech).
The Bears visit the Lehigh Valley Phantoms tonight, with faceoff set for 7:05 PM from PPL Center. The game will be televised locally on ABC-27.2, Comcast 246, Verizon Fios 461, Blue Ridge 152 and Kuhn 67. The game will also be broadcast on the Bears Radio Network of affiliates WQIC-FM 100.1, WTKT-AM 1460 and via the iHeart Radio app (1460 AM).
The club returns home to host the Binghamton Senators on Saturday, January 24 at 7:00 PM. Tickets for this and all remaining home games are on sale at the GIANT Center box office, by calling (717) 508-BEAR or online at TicketMaster.com.
