June 25, 2012 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release

The Tourists took the field Monday night with only nine position players available and fought hard before falling 3-2 to the GreenJackets. Harold Riggins, Sam Mende, and Tyler Massey were all placed on the disabled list Monday morning and the short-handed T's nearly pulled out a win.

Daniel Winkler went six innings and surrendered three runs while scattering nine hits. Brett Krill had an RBI single while Shawn Payne connected with a two-run triple for the 'Jackets.

Trailing 3-0, the Tourists rallied for two runs in the sixth. Will Swanner, who finished 3-for-4, plated Brian Humphries with a single to left and Trevor Story raced home from third when Swanner stole second.

The game remained 3-2 when Asheville attempted a comeback in the ninth inning off Augusta's closer Cody Hall. Chandler Laurent doubled to lead off the frame and Jose Rivera was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with no outs.

Ryan Casteel's plate appearance ended in a strikeout as he attempted to lay down a sacrifice bunt. With one out, Rosell Herrera worked a full count before swinging at strike three while the runners were going. Augusta's catcher, Jeff Arnold, popped up and threw out Laurent at third to end the game.

The Tourists have lost six of their last seven games while Augusta is 14-5 in their last 19 contests. Edwin Escobar earned the win for the GreenJackets by going seven innings and Garrett Buchele finished 4-for-4.
