STAT OF THE DAY: The Shorebirds started the month of June by winning five of eight games including a four-game win streak. Since then, they are 2-9 in the last 11 in June. The Shorebirds nine losses during the stretch have by a combined 21 runs (lost by 9 runs on June 23).
PREVIEW: Last night, the Shorebirds game against Kannapolis was suspended in the fourth inning due to heavy rain. The game will be resumed on August 14 when the Shorebirds return to CMC-Northeast Stadium. The Shorebirds aim for their first win of the second half in game one against Hagerstown. The Shorebirds have lost six games in a row dating back to the first half (season long losing skid is seven - May 25-31).
SAWYER ENJOYING BEST STRETCH: Wynston Sawyer has hit safely in five straight games (9-for-22, .409), tied for a season long. His batting average has jumped from .164 to .201 during the hit streak. Sawyer has three straight multi-hit games, a season best.
NARRON'S JUNE: Connor Narron ranks tied for second in the Orioles system with four home runs in June. Aaron Baker (Frederick) leads the system with six. He is tied for fourth in the minor league system with 14 RBIs in the month. Narron has three multi-hit games and two multi-RBI games in the last four. The 20-year old is batting .353 with 24 hits in June. He had nine hits (.117) in 23 games in May.
ESPOSITO WITH 3 MULTI-HIT GAMES: Jason Esposito has three multi-hit games in his last six games. Esposito is tied for second on the team with 62 hits with Glynn Davis.
10 OF LAST 13: The Shorebirds have played a lot of very tight games of late. Ten of their last 13 games have been decided by two runs or less. Four of the 13 have gone to extra innings.
SQUANDERING LEADS: The Shorebirds led in all three games of the Kannapolis series. In game one, Delmarva led 2-1 after 4+ and led 5-4 after 11+, but lost 6-5. In game two, the Shorebirds led 3-1 after three innings. Kannapolis scored 11 unanswered runs to win 12-3. In game three, the Shorebirds led 4-0 after 2+ but failed to score the rest of the game and lost 5-4 in 14.
