Shorebirds Drop Series Opener to Suns, 7-3

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (0-4) did not score in the final six innings as the Hagerstown Suns (3-2) took game one of the series 7-3 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Monday night. The Shorebirds have lost seven straight games dating back to the first half of the season.
The Suns scored first in the top of the first inning. Brian Goodwin doubled to open the game. Then, Cutter Dykstra hit a ground rule double to left field to give the Suns a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first, the Shorebirds responded with two runs. Brenden Webb and Nicky Delmonico hit back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Connor Narron tripled to the right-center field wall to give the Shorebirds a 2-1 lead. It was the first triple of Narron's career.
The Suns tied the game in the second on a home run by Cole Leonida.
In the bottom of the third, the Shorebirds took a 3-2 lead on a solo home run to right-center field by Brenden Webb, his seventh of the season.
The Shorebirds did not score the rest of the night and managed just two hits from the fourth inning forward.
In the fifth, the Suns tied the game on an RBI single by Caleb Ramsey. In the sixth inning, Justin Miller doubled off relief pitcher Devin Jones and later scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Leonida to give the Suns a 4-3 lead.
Hagerstown added two runs in the eighth and one run in the ninth.
Hagerstown's second pitcher Ben Hawkins earned the win over three scoreless innings. He did not allow a hit. Devin Jones was pinned with the loss over 3.1 innings pitched. He yielded five hits and two earned runs.
Shorebirds starter Parker Bridwell lasted five innings and gave up six hits and three runs. Matt Bischoff came on in the ninth inning and got two quick outs.
Wynston Sawyer and Brenden Webb each had two hits. Sawyer extended his season long hit streak to six games.
The Shorebirds and Suns play game two of the series on Tuesday, June 26 at 7:06pm. LHP Matt Taylor is the scheduled starter.
