Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
WILSON, NC: The Delmarva Shorebirds (15-28) suffered their second consecutive defeat to the Wilson Warbirds (22-21) on Friday night, losing 7-2.
The Warbirds grabbed the first lead of the game in the bottom of the first on a two-run homer by Brady Ebel (2), giving Wilson a 2-0 lead after an inning.
Delmarva's offense struggled to get its offense going against Wilson starter Jarrette Bonet, who threw 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out six.
However, the Shorebirds made their move as soon as he departed in the seventh. Delmarva manufactured four straight hits off reliever Peyton Niksch and scored two runs on a throwing error, tying the game at two.
With the score still tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, the Warbirds broke the game open, scoring five runs on a bases-loaded walk, a two-run single by Yannic Walther, and back-to-back errors, giving Wilson a 7-2 lead.
Delmarva was unable to rally in the final inning and fell to the Warbirds 7-2.
Peyton Niksch (3-1) was the winning reliever, while Luis Beltrán (1-2) took the loss for Delmarva.
The series continues Saturday as the reigning Carolina League Pitcher of the Week, Caden Hunter, takes the mound for the Shorebirds against RHP Carlos Carra for the Warbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
