Hill City Howlers News Release

The Hill City Howlers and Salem RidgeYaks split their Friday afternoon doubleheader to keep the series even.

Game one fell in favor of Salem, as they scratched across a 3-1 victory. The Howlers stole game two with a walk-off single in extras to win 2-1.

The RidgeYaks opened the scoring in the second inning of game one. Givian Sirvania, in his first plate appearance of the series, doubled down the left field line, scoring two to put the 'Yaks in front 2-0.

Hill City struck in the fourth inning courtesy of a Jose Pirela opposite-field double that scored Robert Arias, cutting the deficit to one.

The Howlers had two aboard in the sixth inning, but a double-play halted the threat and ended the inning. Quickly, Salem responded with a leadoff homer in the seventh from Avinson Pinto to add an insurance run.

The Salem pen allowed only three hits in the whole game, as the Howlers fell quietly in the bottom of the inning to give game one to the RidgeYaks.

Game two started in favor of the Howlers as Jose Pirela drove a double to left field, plating Riley Nelson to give them the 1-0 advantage.

Salem tied things up in fourth inning as Luke Heyman scampered home on an RBI double-play from Skyler King.

Both offenses went quiet, pushing game two to extra innings. The RidgeYaks failed to move their runner over from second in the top of the frame.

The Howlers loaded up the bases in the bottom of the eighth. With two down, Johan Rodriguez delivered the walk-off single to left single that bounced off the glove of a diving Enddy Azocar, giving Hill City the double-header split.

The Howlers and RidgeYaks battle again on Saturday evening at City Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
