Tourists Place Three on DL, Receive Three
June 25, 2012 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release
The Colorado Rockies announced that three key contributors to the Asheville Tourists lineup have been placed on the disabled list. First baseman Harold Riggins (knee), outfielder/first baseman Tyler Massey (oblique) and infielder Sam Mede (ankle) are sidelined with their various ailments.
In their place, the Tourists receive catcher Drew Beurlein, first baseman Jordan Ribera, and infielder Joey Wong. Beuerlein had a hit in eight at-bats this year at Rookie-level Grand Junction. Ribera, who batted .200 in 13 games earlier this season with Asheville, was hitting .324 in nine contests at Tri-City. Wong opened the season at Class A Modesto and played one game before suffering an injury. He was hitting at a .207 clip in nine games at Tri-City during his rehab period.
Beuerlein and Ribera will be active for Monday night's game in Augusta, while Wong is expected to arrive and be active for the game on June 26 at Augusta.
The Tourists open a nine-game road trip tonight in Augusta and will return home to McCormick Field on Wednesday, July 4, to begin a five-game series against the GreenJackets. For more information, contact the Tourists' front office at (828) 258-0428.
