Three Run First Lifts Braves

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Greenville Drive Monday evening at State Mutual Stadium 4-2 before a crowd of 2,068. The Braves improve to 4 -1 in the second half of the season.

Rome notched three runs on the scoreboard in the first inning highlighted by a two run triple by Kyle Kubitza. Robby Hefflinger then plated Kubitza on a sacrifice fly for the 3-0 score. The Braves added another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly RBI by Brandon Drury making it a 4-0 game. Greenville cut the lead to 4-2 in the fifth on a groundout double play to score Bryan Johns and an RBI double by Boss Moanaroa. Rome's pitching held on the rest of the way to preserve the 4-2 victory.

Alex Wood started the game for the Braves and pitched well going two innings giving up two hits while striking out four. Ian Thomas (1-0) picks up the win while Mickey Pena (4-4) is the loser for the Drive. John Cornely earns his fifth save of the season.

Roster Moves: Pitchers Byrum Garcia and Matt Talley have been transferred to the Danville Braves of the Appalachian League. Rome receives RHP Ian Marshall from Lynchburg and LHP Fabian Williamson. The Atlanta Braves signed Williamson as a non-drafted free agent from the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
