De Jesus' Dingers Deliver 'Topes 13-3 Win
August 26, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Infielder Ivan De Jesus Jr., belted a pair of home runs, including his third career grand slam, to lead the Albuquerque Isotopes (66-67) to a 13-3 win over the Round Rock Express (80-53) Thursday night at Isotopes Park. De Jesus' two homer performance marks the second time in six games over the current homestand the second baseman has collected two home runs in a contest.
Round Rock grabbed a quick lead in the first inning, scoring three runs on an RBI single by Chad Tracy and a two-run homer by Val Majewski, but the rest of the game belonged to the Isotopes.
De Jesus, batting lead-off for the âTopes, started the bottom of the first with a solo blast to left center, trimming the Express lead to 3-1 before Albuquerque erupted for five runs in the second inning. With two out and runners on first and second, Joe Becker slapped single to center, plating Ivan Ochoa and cutting the Round Rock advantage to 3-2. After Russ Mitchell tied the game with an RBI single to right, Jerry Sands hammered a three-run blast to left, giving Albuquerque a 6-3 lead.
Tim Federowicz helped stretch the lead to 7-3 with a solo homer of his own in the third and Damaso Espino added an RBI single in the fifth that scored John Lindsey and augmented the home team's advantage to 8-3.
Albuquerque would add another crooked number to the scoreboard in the seventh, when Lindsey singled in front of back-to-back walks by Federowicz and Ochoa, loading the bases with one out for De Jesus, who smashed a grand slam that curled around the foul pole in left and immediately gave the Isotopes a comfortable 12-3 cushion.
The Isotopes then capped the scoring on an RBI single by Federowicz with two outs in the eighth to cruise to the 13-3 victory. The combination of De Jesus, Sands, and Federowicz combined for 11 hits and 10 RBI to lead the Albuquerque attack.
The offensive uprising nearly dwarfed a superb outing by starting pitcher Mike Parisi, as the right-hander allowed just the three, first-inning runs while going 6.2 innings in which he allowed just four total hits, walked two and struck out four. At one point from the third to the seventh, Parisi (5-1) retired 13 straight batters while improving to a perfect 4-0 in five starts at Isotopes Park.
The âTopes will go for a second straight win on Friday behind lefty Randy Keisler (6-7, 5.34), who will make the start for the Isotopes against Round Rock left-hander Martin Perez (3-3, 6.28). First pitch from The Lab is 7:05 PM.
Albuquerque continues its homestand Friday with a golf towel giveaway to the first 3,000 fans courtesy of Coca-Cola. On Saturday and Sunday, the homestand will wrap up with back-to-back Fan Appreciation fireworks nights that also include special Isotopes grab bags to the first 3,000 fans on both days! Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
