New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The Omaha Storm Chasers pounded out 18 hits and scored 11 runs over a three-inning span mid-game, cruising to a 14-1 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs at Zephyr Field on Friday night.

Each member of the Storm Chasers' starting lineup had at least one hit, with David

Lough and Joaquin Arias collecting three hits apiece. Arias

fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Seven Storm Chasers posted multiple-hit efforts, with five different players driving in at least two runs.

Omaha carried a 2-1 lead into the fifth inning before breaking out for three runs in the fifth, five runs in the sixth, and three more runs in the seventh.

Lorenzo Cain's two-run double keyed the three-run fifth inning, and the scoring barrage began an inning later when

Yamaico Navarro hit a towering fly ball to deep right-center field.

Zephyrs center fielder Chris

Coghlan appeared to overrun the ball, allowing Navarro to reach third with a triple. Manny

Pina followed with an RBI single to chase Z's starter Darin Downs, and after Arias doubled, Jarrod Dyson laced a two-run single to put Omaha

ahead 8-1.

Arias slugged a three-run homer in the seventh inning, just his second home run of the season, as the Storm Chasers built a 13-1 advantage.

The Pacific Coast League's ERA leader, Luis Mendoza, was the beneficiary of the run support, allowing one run and seven hits in six innings. Mendoza improved to 11-5 while lowering his ERA to 2.15, only getting touched up for a home run by Matt Dominguez to lead off the second.

The Z's and Storm Chasers meet in the fourth game of the five-game set Saturday at 6 p.m. New Orleans will start Tom Koehler (10-7, 5.16) against Omaha's Jeff

Suppan (11-6, 4.40).
