Keisler In Control As \'Topes Win 9-0
August 26, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque Isotopes (67-67) starting pitcher Randy Keisler doused the bats of one of the Pacific Coast League's hottest-hitting teams, holding the Round Rock Express (80-54) to just three hits through seven innings in a 9-0 âTopes triumph Friday night at Isotopes Park. In two starts against the Express this season, the Texas native has not allowed a run in 13.0 innings while going 2-0.
Keisler came right out of the gate dealing, retiring the first seven batters he faced before yielding a single in the third. The three hits the southpaw allowed were all singles as he cruised through his seven frames of work, walking one and striking out eight to earn his seventh victory of the year. Keisler (7-7) tossed 96 pitches, an amazing 67 of them for strikes.
With Keisler in control, the Isotopes offense went to work immediately in the bottom of the first. Ivan De Jesus Jr. led off the frame with a single to left that was booted by left fielder Brad Nelson, allowing the speedy infielder to coast all the way into third, where he was promptly cashed in by an RBI single off the bat of Russ Mitchell, giving the âTopes a 1-0 lead. Jerry Sands followed with a single, putting runners on the corners for John Lindsey, who cleared the bases with a double to left-center, putting the Isotopes on top 3-0.
After Albuquerque added a run in the third on a triple by Joe Becker and an RBI groundout by Mitchell, the âTopes erupted for four runs in the fourth to seize control of the contest. With runners on the corners and two down, De Jesus roped a triple over the head of centerfielder Leonys Martin, scoring both runners and increasing the home team's advantage to 6-0. Becker then added his second triple in as many at-bats, plating De Jesus before trotting home on an RBI single by Mitchell to give Albuquerque an 8-0 cushion.
Mitchell would cap the Isotopes scoring the sixth, scoring De Jesus with yet another RBI single, sending the âTopes to a 9-0 win. Mitchell finished the night with four RBI while going 3-for-5.
Reliever Ramon Troncoso came on in relief of Keisler and authored a scoreless eighth before Jon Link retired the Express 1-2-3 in the ninth to preserve the shutout.
The âTopes will look for their third straight victory against the Express on Saturday with left-hander Alberto Bastardo (3-2, 6.03) making the start for the Isotopes against Round Rock lefty Martin Perez (3-3, 6.28) in a 7:05 PM MT start from Isotopes Park.
Albuquerque continues its homestand Saturday with the first of back-to-back fireworks shows on a spectacular "Fan Appreciation Weekend." In addition to fireworks tomorrow and Sunday, the first 3,000 fans on each day will get a special Isotopes grab bag full of âTopes goodies! Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
