
Nine Run Eighth Inning Sends OKC to 10-5 Win

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks (62-72) scored nine runs in the eighth inning, including the go-ahead, three-run home run from Chris Johnson, in a 10-5 win over the Iowa Cubs (62-72) before 6,497 Friday night at RedHawks Field at Bricktown.
RedHawks infielder Anderson Hernandez cracked an RBI single in the eighth inning and extended his hitting streak to 24 games, tying the season-long hitting streak in the PCL (Tony Abreu, Reno).
RedHawks reliever Mickey Storey (1-0) allowed one run and three hits over two innings in the winning decision. John Gaub (4-4) took the loss for Iowa, giving up five runs, four earned, on three hits in one-third of an inning.
Iowa opened the scoring in the first inning against RedHawks starter Xavier Cedeno. Brett Jackson led off with a home run for a 1-0 lead. D.J. LeMahieu, Brad Snyder and Ryan Flaherty each singled in runs for a 4-0 score.
The RedHawks got on the board in the in the sixth inning against Cubs starter Jay Jackson. Luis Durango singled, moved to third on a Brett Wallace single and scored on an Anderson Hernandez groundout for a 4-1 score.
Iowa countered in the eighth inning when Ryan Flaherty belted an eighth inning home run for a 5-1 advantage.
Oklahoma City took the lead with a nine-run eighth inning, sending 14 hitters to the plate against three different Cubs relievers. Anderson Hernandez started the scoring with a bases loaded single, extending his streak to 24 games, and cutting the Iowa lead to 5-2. A throwing error on the same play scored Shuck for a 5-3 score. Jose Vallejo next singled in another RedHawks run for a 5-4 game. Cubs reliever John Gaub left the game for Kyle Smith, who surrendered a three-run home run from Chris Johnson, sending the RedHawks in front 7-5. Shuck later added a bases loaded walk for an RBI while a Brett Wallace two-run single ended the scoring at 10-5.
