Round Rock Express News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Randy Keisler, Ramon Troncoso and Jon Link combined on a four-hit shutout as the Albuquerque Isotopes blanked the Round Rock Express 9-0 in Friday night's Pacific Coast League action at Isotopes Park. The Express (80-54) suffered consecutive losses for the first time since Aug. 7-8 and were shutout for the first time since Aug. 2. The Isotopes (67-67) lead the series 2-1 and the season series 7-3.
Jerry Sands had a one-out RBI single, and John Lindsey added a two-run double in the bottom of the first; the Isotopes never looked back. Joe Becker led off the third with a triple and scored on Russ Mitchell's groundout. Albuquerque added four runs in the fourth, thanks in part to consecutive run-scoring triples from Ivan De Jesus Jr. and Becker. Mitchell capped the scoring with an RBI single in the sixth.
Keisler (7-7) worked 7.0 innings and surrendered only three singles and a walk with eight strikeouts. Troncoso and Link worked one inning each. Troncoso had one strikeout and surrendered Round Rock's lone extra-base hit, a two-out Leonys Martin double in the eighth.
Express starter Eric Hurley (8-2) suffered his first loss in three decisions. He was touched for eight runs - seven earned - on 10 hits and three walks over 5.0 innings with two strikeouts. Tanner Scheppers walked four over 2.0 innings but managed to only allow one run on one hit with four strikeouts. Val Majewski pitched a one-two-three eighth with one strikeout in his second career mound appearance; he also tossed an inning of scoreless relief for Double-A Midland last season.
In addition to Martin's double, the Express got singles from Taylor Teagarden, Guilder Rodriguez and Esteban German, who pushed his hitting streak to nine games. Round Rock's only other base-runner was a Rodriguez walk in the third.
Mitchell was 3-for-5 with four RBI for the Isotopes.
Round Rock and Albuquerque continue their five-game series Saturday with an 8:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at Isotopes Park. Left-hander Martin Perez (3-3, 6.28 ERA) will start for the Express, while lefty Alberto Bastardo (3-2, 6.03 ERA) is slated to go for the Isotopes.
