David Brown recalled to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers announced a couple of roster moves today according to head coach Greg Puhalski. The changes to the roster are effective immediately.

Goalie David Brown has been recalled by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL and center Rob Sirianni has been loaned to the Binghamton Senators of the AHL.. With the undisclosed injury to Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury the Penguins called up netminder John Curry from the Baby Pens thus prompting them to bring back David Brown who began the season with that team.

Brown has played 5 games for the Nailers this year going 3-0-2 with a goals against average of 2.34 and a saves percentage of .928. He has played in one game with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this year. At 6'0" and 185 pounds, the Stoney Creek, Ontario native has held the opposition to one goal on two different occasions this year including a stellar 26 save performance on Saturday, November 15 in a 4-1 victory at Elmira in which he allowed no 'regular' goals and only surrendered a penalty-shot goal. Last year with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton he was 9-7-1, 2.34, .913 in 19 games and with Wheeling was 6-6-1, 3.31, .913 in 13 games. The 8th round pick on the Penguins in the 2004 NHL entry draft was CCHA player of the year at Notre Dame in 06-07 with a 1.58 gaa on the season going 30-6-3.

Rob Sirianni is not under contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and is therefore eligible to be loaned to another organization such as the Binghamton Senators (the AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators). The Nailers captain has played in 12 games this season scoring 8 goals on 11 assists for 19 points which is tied for 2nd in the ECHL trailing only teammate and line mate Tommy Goebel who has 20. Sirianni is 5'11", 185 pounds and a right-handed shooter. He had back to back 2 goal performances at Mississippi on November 8 and 9 and was runner-up for ECHL Player of the Week honors. The Edmonton, Alberta native played with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL last year and scored 15 goals and 24 assists for 39 points in only 39 games. He previously played 4 seasons at Bemidji State in Bemidji, Minnesota.

It was also announced that equipment manager Billy Higgins will serve as the emergency backup goalie to Curtis Darling and has been activated on the roster. Higgins has officially been recorded in the box score in 3 games over 2 seasons in a similar emergency role in 05-06 and 06-07.
