Stingrays Make it 6 Straight With 3-2 Win Over Charlotte

Charlotte, NC - The South Carolina Stingrays took an early lead and held on late as they pushed their winning streak to six straight games, including five straight on the road, by defeating the Charlotte Checkers 3-2 in Charlotte.

"I thought we came out really well in the first period," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "We let off a little bit in the second period, but I thought we played very well defensively to end the game."

In the first period, the Rays got out first on their first power play of the night. Travis Morin tipped in a shot from Maxime Lacroix and slipped it past Maxime Daigneault to make it a 1-0 game. The goal came at 5:04 and was assisted by Lacroix and Sasha Pokulok.

Right off the face off in the second period Pierre-Luc O'Brien got his fourth goal of the season. The puck was brought into the zone by Steve Pinizzotto and Trent Campbell and came at just :11 seconds into the period. Charlotte's Mike Bayrack scored twice in the period to tie the game up at two. His first came on a two on one breakaway, followed by a five on three power play. The Rays were able to respond later in the period when Lacroix got his seventh goal of the season from Michael Dubuc. The goal came at 14:54 and gave the Stingrays their second lead of the game, one they would not give up.

The winning goaltender was Bobby Goepfert who stopped 19 of the 21 shots he faced in the game. Goepfert is now 4-0, all his wins coming against the Checkers. The losing goaltender was Daigneault who stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced. The Rays went 1-5 on the power play while killing off seven of the eight short handed situations they faced.
