Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the organization has acquired defenseman Gerard Miller from the Las Vegas Wranglers in exchange for consideration. Miller (6'0/204) (25), a fifth year pro from Cold Spring Harbor, New York, played nine games with the Wranglers this season and registered four assists. In a separate transaction, per league guidelines, the trade of defenseman Mike Salekin to the Mississippi Sea Wolves, undertaken on November 12, has been declared void.
Last year, Miller began the season with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL, where he played two games before being returned to the Cincinnati Cyclones ECHL. While with the Cyclones, Miller scored four goals and picked up fourteen assists (eighteen points) in thirty two games and earned a one game call-up to the Binghamton Senators of the AHL in December. Five of Miller's assists with the Cyclones last year came against the Royals, which included two multi-assist performances against Reading. In early March, Miller was traded to the Phoenix Roadrunners of the ECHL, where he picked up seven assists in nine games and earned a five game call-up to the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL in late March. Miller also played in the Admirals' playoff game against the Chicago Wolves on April 16. 2007.
Miller, who played three seasons of college hockey at the University of Vermont, spent his first season of pro and a portion of his second with the Berlin Junior Polar Bears in the German Oberliga, scoring a total of seven goals and picking up seventeen assists (twenty-four points) in 71 total games. Miller returned to North America to finish his 2005-06 season with the Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League, where he scored a goal and picked up four assists (five points) in eighteen games. In 2006-07, Miller led all defensemen on the Flint Generals of the United Hockey League with thirteen goals and forty-four assists (fifty-seven points) in seventy-three games.
