Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte, NC. - The Charlotte Checkers have played the Stingrays four times this season and the results have been the same each game as they drop another contest to South Carolina by a score of 3-2 at home.

The only goal scored in the first period was by the Stingrays while on the power play. It was South Carolina forward Maxime Lacroix fired a shot that hit the stick and right pad of Checkers netminder Maxime Daigneault but managed to squeak past the goal-line at 5:04 putting the Checkers down 1-0.

The start of the second period couldn't have been much better for the Stingrays as they struck just 11 seconds into the frame as shot by Pierre-Luc Obrien hit a Charlotte defenseman in front of Daigneault and bounced into the net putting up the Stingrays 2-0. Charlotte would slash the lead in half on a two-on-one break when David Rutherford fed Mike Bayrack who pulled the puck through the crease to beat a helpless Bobby Goepfert at 7:47. The Checkers tied the contest on a two-man advantage and it was Bayrack again. This time he wired the puck over a sprawling Goepfert just under two minutes later at 9:41 locking the game at 2-2. The Stingrays would strike back to regain a lead when Lacroix scored his second of the game redirecting a pass from Michael Dubuc between the legs of Daigneault at 14:54 giving the Stingrays a 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Despite a valiant effort in the final period, the Checkers couldn't find the tying goal and fall by the Stingrays by a 3-2 score.
