WHEELING,WV - Goalie Curtis Darling made 32 saves in recording his first shutout of the season as the Wheeling Nailers disposed of the Trenton Devils 4-0 at WesBanco Arena Wednesday night. Darling improved to 5-1-2 on the season in his finest performance of the year.

The Nailers improved to 9-1-4 with the win and moved into a first place tie in the North Division with the Johnstown Chiefs but Wheeling has played one fewer game.

ECHL leading scorer Tommy Goebel led the offense with 1 goal and 2 assists to increase his league pace to 23 points on the year. Dartmouth College product Jon Grecu scored his first goal as a professional and Elgin Reid and Andrew Lord also lit the lamp. Lord also had an assist for a multi-point night.

Wheeling took the lead at 6:14 of the first period when Aaron Clarke won the puck along the end-boards to the right of the cage and flipped it out to Tommy Goebel who buried his 8th goal of the season.

Matt Grennier and Doug Krantz assisted on the goal that gave the Nailers a 2-0 lead at the 1st intermnission.

The teams battled through a scoreless 2nd period but Wheeling put the finishing touches on the win in the 3rd when Elgin Reid blasted a slapshot from the left point on a fine drop by Goebel at 13:13 and then Andrew Lord fired it into the back of the net from between the circles on another fine feed by Goebel who had carried it up the right wing and circled around the goal drawing the defense with him and leaving his teammate Lord with the scoring opportunity.
