November 19, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID- Marty Flichel had two goals and an assist and Mark Bomersback assisted on both of Flichel's goals as the Steelheads (7-6-2) won 3-2 in overtime over the Stockton Thunder (5-6-3) in front of 2,830 fans at Qwest Arena. The game was a return for Bomersback, who made his return to the Steelheads lineup after beginning the season with the Providence Bruins; the forward had 39 points in 35 regular season games for Idaho a year ago.
After a scoreless first period, Stockton took control in the second frame, as the Thunder scored the first two goals of the hockey game. The scoring was opened by Mike LaLonde at 8:38 of period number two, with assists going to Stephane Goulet and Ryan Huddy. Ryan MacMurchy put Stockton up 2-0 with a goal at 14:19 of the second, with assists going to Colin McDonald and Milan Maslonka. Stockton controlled the second, but the third period was all Idaho.
Two power play goals in the third period tied the game for the Steelheads. The first came when Flichel one-timed a Bomersback pass by Stockton goalie Andrew Perugini; Steve Gainey also picked up an assist on the goal at 7:13 of the third. Gainey tied the game on another power play tally at 16:32 of the third when he banged home the rebound of a Ben Nelson shot. Nelson and Flichel picked up assists on Idaho's second goal.
Ryan MacMurchy took an interference penalty with 17 seconds to go in regulation, and the power play for the Steelheads carried over to the extra frame. The man-advantage gave the Steelheads a chance, and they capitalized at 1:00 of the overtime period when Flichel scored, one-timing another Bomersback pass.
Rejean Beauchemin earned the win for the Steelheads, as he improved to 4-2-2; he made 31 saves on 33 shots. Perugini turned aside 32 of 35 Idaho shots as his record fell to 3-0-2.
