
Daubenspeck Signs In Portland

Portland, Maine - Portland Pirates Head Coach Tim Army announced today that goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck has signed a standard players contract with the Pirates. This past weekend Daubenspeck played in two games for the Pirates. On Friday at Manchester he played the third period in relief for Maxime Ouellet, stopping all nine shots he faced, and Sunday at Worcester where he stopped 27 shots en route to the Pirates first shutout of the season. He has played 80:00 minutes with the Pirates without allowing a goal.
On February 1, Daubenspeck returned to the Stingrays and made 26 saves in the Stingrays 3-2 loss to the Columbia Inferno. He started the season with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL. He played in 24 games for the Stingrays posting a 2.26 GAA and a .936 SV% and a record of 12-9-3 before his first call up with the Pirates.
Last season, Daubenspeck played the majority of his time with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL and one game with the Worcester IceCats of the AHL. In 47 games with the Stingrays he posted a 2.66 GAA and a .920 SV% with a record of 29-15-2. In 2002-03, he played in 58 games for the South Carolina Stingrays, he posted a 2.90 GAA and a .915 SV% for a record of 36 wins, 16 losses and 6 ties during that span. Before turning pro, he played four years at the University of Wisconsin and was named the winner of the Spike Carlson Award as the team MVP in 1996 and 1997.
The Pirates sent the Stingrays rookie goaltender Justin Eddy and forward Cam McCaffrey today as well. Eddy played the last four seasons with Quinnipiac University. He was signed as a free agent by the Capitals in April, 2004. The native of New Haven, CT has a record of 2-5-1 with a GAA of 3.65 and a save percentage of .863 in 11 starts with the Pirates.
The Stingrays will play at home tonight against the Gwinnett Gladiators and on Saturday against the Greenville Grrrowl.
