Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska goaltender Lance Mayes made a season-high 36 saves and Scott Gomez found Ryan Moren for the winner in OT as the Aces claimed their third straight victory, 3-2 over Bakersfield in front of 3,581 Thursday at Sullivan Arena.

Each team managed just seven shots on goal in a scoreless first period before Paul Rosebush finally broke through for the visitors with a backhander at 12:03 of the second that glanced off the shoulder of Mayes before finding its way into the back of the net. A minute and a half later, Rosebush figured in another goal, only this tally went in Alaska's favor as a wrist shot from Charles Linglet was stopped by Bakersfield goalie Yutaka Fukufuji but caromed in off the skate of Rosebush on the rebound.

The Condors (26-11-7) regained the lead at 2-1 as Lars-Peder Nagel followed his own shot, finally shoveling the puck over Mayes at 7:51 of the third period. But just 31 seconds later, Fukufuji made a terrific save on point blank chance for Mike Scott, only to see another rebound smacked out of mid-air and into the net by Aces defenseman Mike Jones. Alaska killed off a four-minute Bakersfield power play later in the period to set up overtime, even as the Condors finished with a 38-24 edge in shots on goal, the largest deficit for the Aces (ranked #1 among ECHL teams in shots against) all season and matching their largest total against for the year.

In overtime, Gomez entered the offensive zone on the right wing and whipped a rink-wide pass to Moren, who glided down the slot and beat Fukufuji on his forehand for his sixth goal of the year, matching a career-high. Alaska has ripped off a 13-2-2 run over its last 17 games to pull within three points of second-place Bakersfield and four points off the division lead, currently held by Long Beach.

The Aces (26-14-4) and Condors wrap up their three-game series Saturday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on flagship station KFQD 750 AM and be made available via video webcast for only $6.00 per game at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
