Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - SunCom, an award-winning wireless services provider in the Southeast, and the Charlotte Checkers announced today that SunCom will become the team's official and exclusive wireless partner. The three-year agreement will run through the 2006-2007 season.

"The Charlotte Checkers is a vibrant team and deeply committed to the Charlotte community," said Michael Holland, SunCom Area Vice President of Sales. "SunCom, which has provided digital wireless services in the Southeast for six years, is proud to share this commitment as we expand into the Charlotte area." SunCom this week officially introduced its new marketing and branding campaign that brings Truth in Wirelesssm to Charlotte.

As part of the sponsorship, SunCom will be the title sponsor of the Charlotte Checkers' customer service center, now named the SunCom Wireless Information Igloo.

"The Charlotte Checkers are sincerely proud to enter into this exciting relationship with SunCom," said Carl Scheer, CEO of the Checkers. "We believe that many of the same attributes that apply in our business are clearly stated in SunCom's Truth in Wireless campaign. We are eager to roll up our sleeves and work side-by-side with SunCom representatives in Charlotte to help promote two great products while maintaining our customer's expectations."

The primary focus of the partnership, however, is SunCom's involvement with charitable and community-oriented organizations through the team's Fundraising program. As the presenting sponsor of the Fundraising Program, SunCom will offer a free SunCom Wireless phone with one year of service to each of the top five fundraising partners of the Charlotte Checkers. Currently, the Checkers have over 50 charitable or community-oriented organizations that have taken part in this season's Fundraising Program.

SunCom will also underwrite the costs of a specialty jersey to be worn on the March 19th, 2005 game versus the Gwinnett Gladiators. This jersey will be auctioned off following the game with the proceeds benefiting Junior Achievement, an organization that teaches the ethics of business and economics to young people.
