Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Salmon Kings have signed goaltender Dan Blackburn. The long awaited return of Blackburn to professional hockey will likely begin Friday against the Fresno Falcons.

The 21 year old native of Montreal, PQ was the first round draft pick of the New York Rangers (10th overall) and was a highly touted prospect. He was a starter for the Rangers as an 18 year old and has played 63 games in the big show.

Blackburn missed the entire 2003-04 NHL season for the Rangers, with a much talked about shoulder injury to his glove arm. Blackburn has recently had approved by the NHL, a second blocker that he will use instead of a glove because he has limited movement in his arm.

Blackburn's new piece of equipment has a modified glove for freezing the puck sewn into the bottom of a regular blocker and he says the blocker impedes his ability to compete very little, if any at all.

The media circus surrounding Blackburn's return heated up earlier this week with his arrival to Victoria and Fresno will be the first team in two years to test his resolve. Before his injury Blackburn was a highly touted prospect and he comes to Victoria with the intent to prove he is still a high quality game breaker.
