April 6, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Daniel Steiner has been named the Sher-wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for March 29 - April 4, 2010. This marks the fifth time this season that a Royal has taken the Player of the Week honors (Stefano Giliati, 10/25 - 11/01/09; Ben Gordon, 12/14 - 12/20/09; and Ryan Cruthers, 12/20 - 12/27/09; and Stefano Giliati, 03/01 - 03/07).

Steiner, an eleventh year pro from Bern, Switzerland racked up a total of eight points (5g-3a8pts) and played to a plus-seven (+7) in the Royals' three games last week. He began the week by registering a pair of assists in Reading's 5-3 loss in Elmira last Wednesday. On Friday, nine seconds after Joey Ryan had made it a 6-4 game in favor of Wheeling at the 4:00 minute mark of the third period, Steiner scored to cut the lead to one, and in the process helped the Royals close what was a three goal gap to ultimately earn a tie (and a shootout win) that clinched a playoff berth for the team. That goal established a new team record for the quickest back-to-back goals scored in Royals' history out on the road. Steiner then entered the team record books a second time, when he scored four goals (and racked up five points) in Saturday's 8-4 win over Trenton. Steiner is the third person in team history to score four goals in a single game; and the sixth to rack up five points in a single game. In twenty-nine games with the Royals, Steiner scored nineteen goals, assisted on twenty-three others (forty-two points) and led the team by playing to a plus-11 (+11). He has also appeared in 28 American Hockey League games this season with Adirondack and Rochester amassing 20 points (6g-14a) and 10 penalty minutes.

This marks the thirteenth time in team history that a Royal has won the ECHL's Player of the Week Award. The others who have won the award while playing for Reading are: Brendan Brooks, Brian McCullough, Ryan Kinasewich, Mike Pandolfo, Shay Stephenson, Greg Hogeboom, Chris Blight, Ben Gordon (twice), Ryan Cruthers, and Stefano Giliati (twice).

On behalf of Daniel Steiner, a case of pucks will be donated to a Reading youth hockey organization by Sher-wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-wood Hockey has donated more than 22,700 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.

The Royals visit Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan for Game One of the ECHL American Conference Quarter-Final series against the Kalamazoo Wings tonight (Tuesday, April 6, 2010 @ 7:00 pm). The Royals game night broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off at 6:30 pm.
