
Stingrays Fall 6-1 to Cyclones in Playoff Opener

Cincinnati, OH -The South Carolina Stingrays (0-1) fell to the Cincinnati Cyclones (1-0) 6-1 in front of 1,080 in game one of the American Conference Quarterfinals at U.S. Bank Arena Tuesday night. Forward Michael Dubuc scored the only goal for the Stingrays in the loss.
The Stingrays jumped on the board first with a power-play marker from Dubuc at 4:07 of the first period. Forward Nikita Kashirsky and defenseman Johann Kroll recorded the assists. The Cyclones tied the contest at 11:41 as forward Barret Ehgoetz buried a slap shot over the glove of Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford from forward Hans Benson and Mathieu Aubin.
Cyclones forward Jimmy Kilpatrick made it 2-1 at 13:45 of the second period from forward Matt Pierce and Benson. The Cyclones grabbed a two-goal lead at 15:27 as defenseman Brian O'Hanley completed a 2-on-1 with Benson. Cincinnati's Ehgoetz earned the second assist. The Cyclones added to their lead at 17:36 as Kilpatrick found the twine for his second goal of the game from O'Hanley and forward Dustin Sproat.
Cincinnati carried the scoring into the third period as Sproat broke free down the right-wing wall and fired a wrist shot under the blocker of Ford for a 5-1 lead. O'Hanley completed the game scoring at 19:33 from Sproat and forward Will Ortiz. Ford ended the night stopping 19 of 25 Cyclones shots. Smith earned the win, kicking away 31 of 32 Stingrays chances. The Stingrays finished 1-for-2 on the power play while the Cyclones went 0-for-1.
