Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
ELMIRA, New York - The Cincinnati Cyclones ten game unbeaten streak ended at ten games (9-0-1) in a 4-3 loss at Elmira on Saturday night. Barry Robins goal with 4:21 remaining gave the Jackals the win and a tie of first place in the North Division with the Cyclones in the triumph. Travis Fuller scored a pair of goals in the defeat.
The Cyclones opened the scoring at 13:30 of the first period when Travis Fuller drifted across the high slot and slid a puck along the ice just inside the far post. The goal was Fuller's ninth of the season from Jean-Michel Daoust and David Desharnais. The first period was also highlighted by an acrobatic save from Cincinnati netminder Cedrick Desjardins off Jim McKenzie with four minutes to play in the opening frame.
Each team scored a pair of goals in the second period. Elmira tied the game up 36 seconds into the middle frame, when Chaz Johnson notched his tenth goal of the season. Cincinnati re-claimed the lead at 2-1, when Jean-Michel Daoust netted his league-leading 27th goal at 15:00. Daoust fired a shot from the left circle that was assisted by Desharnais and Chad Starling. The Jackals tied the game a second time when Johnson collected his eleventh goal at 16:30.
Cincinnati grabbed the lead 15.9 seconds before the second intermission, when Fuller fired another shot from the high slot for his second score of the night and tenth of the campaign, as Gerard Miller picked up the helper.
The Cyclones are 25-7-3 on the season. Elmira is 25-9-3. The teams are tied for first place in the North Division, with Cincinnati having played two fewer games.
Cincinnati is now 20-4-3 in its last 27 games.
The Cyclones had two players recalled (James Sixsmith by Milwaukee and Matt Syroczynski by Albany) and added three defensemen (Brian Escobedo, Shawn Futers and Peter Hafner) to the lineup. A total of 15 players who have played in Cincinnati this season have played more than 110 games in the American Hockey League.
The Cyclones are at Reading tomorrow (Jan. 13) for a 5pm showdown that will be carried on 96 Rock.
