Dayton Bombers News Release

Wheeling, WV- Despite out shooting the Wheeling Nailers, a home ice advantage of 3,744 screaming Nailers fans would propel Wheeling to a tough-fought 4-1 over the defending American Conference Champion Dayton Bombers on Saturday night.

Wheeling would fly right out of the gates, capitalizing on early Bombers penalties to score the go-ahead goal on the power play just 2:40 in. The Nailers would best starting goaltender Jeremy Duchesne a second time with a quick shot through traffic at the 10:31 mark to take a two-goal lead into the dressing room after twenty minutes. Dayton would see resurgence in the late stages of the period, but would still be out shot 6-5.

After falling behind early, the Bombers returned to the ice with a noticeable heightened energy, yet would be unable to capitalize on plays and bounces in Wheeling's end. The Nailers would add yet another setback for the Bombers, with their third goal of the game at the 13:18 mark. The goal, Wheeling's second power play goal of the game, ultimately became the lone goal of the second period. Dayton would however dramatically outshoot Wheeling in the second 15-8, but the Nailers held onto a 3-0 lead at the break.

Dayton's Matt Beaudoin would score the lone Bombers tally in the third, off a centering pass from Yannick Tifu at the 14:24 mark, making it 3-1 until Wheeling hammered in the final "nail in the coffin", and short-handed empty net goal with just seconds left in regulation for the 4-1 win. Final shots on goal favored Dayton heavily 33-20.

With the loss, Dayton's record now stands at 17-11-7 for 41 points. The Bombers now travel to Cincinnati's US Bank Arena for a Wednesday showdown with the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:30pm. Fans can tune into the broadcast via b2 Networks at echl.com, daytonbombers.com and b2livetv.com.
