COLUMBIA, SC - The Florida Everblades (20-13-3) concluded their three-game road trip with tough 4-3 loss to the Columbia Inferno (15-15-8) on Saturday afternoon at the Carolina Coliseum in front of a crowd of 3,035.

The Inferno got off to a quick start netting a pair of goals in the first seven minutes of the game before the Everblades answered with a goal midway through the frame to cut the Columbia lead to 2-1 after one period. Columbia got the scoring started early as Daniel Sparre notched his team-leading 17th goal of the season just 1:16 into the game after a face-off win by the Inferno led to a chance at the right post.

The Inferno added to their lead at 6:31 of the opening period while enjoying a 5-on-3 power play. Defenseman Reid Cashman notched his first goal of the season after letting a shot go from the left point that eluded Everblades goaltender Justin Peters. The Everblades however responded just past the mid point of the period when Kirk MacDonald took a lead pass from David Cornacchia and broke in cleanly on Inferno net-minder Jeff Jakaitis before wristing a shot into the upper right corner of the net. The power play marker came at 12:56 and was the seventh goal of the season for MacDonald.

A wild second period that included seeing Peters chased from the game with a fighting major and a game misconduct, saw the Inferno add to their lead with a pair of goal to carry a 4-1 lead into the second intermission. Leading 2-1, Columbia added to their lead midway through the frame when Tyler Doig popped in his second sixth goal at 10:09 for a 3-1 Inferno lead. Just over four minutes later, Columbia opened a three-goal lead when Tyson Marsh swooped on to a loose puck at the top of the Everblades crease and chipped in his second goal of the season at 14:38.

With 2:24 remaining in the second period Peters got into a fracas with Doig at the right side of the net, that led to Peters picking up the five minute fighting penalty and the game misconduct. At that point David Shantz took over between the pipes for the Everblades.

In the final period the Everblades made a valiant effort at a come-back scoring twice to cut the lead down to one, but couldn't find the equalizer as time expired. The Everblades notched their first goal of the period at 5:08 on a strong effort by Cornacchia, who after taking a pass at the top of the right circle before sliding to the high slot and letting a wrist shot go that beat Jakaitis over the glove. MacDonald and Lukin assisted on Cornacchia's sixth goal of the season.

The Everblades trimmed the lead down to one midway through the frame on MacDonald's second goal of the game and eighth of the season with a quick wrist shot from the bottom of the right circle that fired under the cross bar at 9:18. Cornacchia and Mike McLean earned the assists on the tally.

From there Jakaitis shut the door, including a gave-saving stop on Derek Damon with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, en-route to notching the win. Jakaitis improved to 6-9-4 after turning away 25 of 28 shots. Peters took the loss after allowing the four goals on 17 shots, dropping his record to 13-7-2. Shantz closed out the game by stopping all 11 shots he faced in the final 22 minutes of the contest.

On the power play, the Everblades closed out night 1-for-6, while the Inferno finished 1-for-11.
