
Wellar to Toronto, Perry to Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Jan. 12, 2008)-Inferno defenseman Patrick Wellar has been recalled to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, Inferno head coach and director of hockey operations Troy Mann announced today. In addition, defenseman Todd Perry has been assigned to the Inferno from the Marlies.
"We're very proud of the contribution Patrick has made not only to the team, but to the locker room as well," Mann said. "This is a great opportunity for him."
Wellar, 24, has 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) and 63 penalty minutes in 35 games with the Inferno this season. In 203 career regular season ECHL games from the 2004-05 season to present day with the Peoria Rivermen, Alaska Aces and Inferno, Wellar has 65 points (21 goals, 44 assists) and 344 penalty minutes. Wellar, a Kelly Cup Champion with the Aces, has eight points (three goals, five assists) and 50 penalty minutes in 37 career Kelly Cup Playoff games.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Carrot River, Saskatchewan, has also played in 28 career regular season AHL games with the Worcester Ice Hawks and Peoria Rivermen from 2004-05 through 2006-07. During that time, Wellar has two assists and 11 penalty minutes. Wellar was originally drafted 77th overall by the Washington Capitals in the third round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Perry, 21, has 12 points (three goals, nine assists) and 29 penalty minutes in 24 games with the Inferno this season. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound native of Ingleside, Ontario, has two penalty minutes in five games with the Marlies this season.
Prior to turning pro, Perry had 51 points (five goals, 46 assists) and 340 penalty minutes in 163 career Ontario Hockey League games from 2004-05 through 2006-07 with the Barrie Colts and London Knights. Perry also had 11 points (four goals, seven assists) and 78 penalty minutes in 36 career OHL playoff games.
The Inferno return to the Carolina Coliseum on Friday, Jan. 18 to host the Texas Wildcatters for NASCAR Night. SPRINT Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson's showcar and Jeff Gordon's race simulator will be on hand for the game, and all fans wearing NASCAR gear will receive $3 off their tickets.
