Las Vegas Wranglers News Release

The Salmon Kings and the Wranglers met in Las Vegas this evening in a much anticipated match-up of the National conference's top two teams. They met earlier in the year in Victoria where the teams split the two game set with each winning a game 4-3.

The first period saw Kings goaltender Julien Ellis seeing a lot of rubber as the Wranglers fired 17 shots in the game's first 20 minutes. Ellis was equal to the task as the teams were tied 0-0 after the first period.

The second period saw Vegas hit the board when Peter Ferraro took a pass from Chris Ferraro and he made no mistake to make it 1-0. The Wranglers made it 2-0 when Salmon Kings defenseman Daniel Rahimi caught an edge behind his net and went down, allowing a three-on-zero. The two Ferraro brothers passed the puck back and forth forcing Ellis down and then slid it over to Kelly Czuy who tipped it into the open net. Las Vegas took a 3-0 lead when Peter Ferraro picked up the rebound of a Jason Jozsa shot in the slot and wired it past Ellis. The score was 3-0 after 40 minutes.

The third period saw the Wranglers score two more times. Both Shawn Limpright and Tyler Mosienko scored for the home team. Wranglers' goaltender Daniel Manzato collected the shutout. Final score Wranglers 5 Salmon Kings 0.

The Salmon Kings went 0/4=0% on the power play and the Wranglers were 0/3=0%. Las Vegas outshot Victoria 47-25.

The Salmon Kings and Wranglers conclude this two game set tomorrow night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Victoria then returns home on Tuesday, January 15th vs. Bakersfield when they begin a five game home stand. Call 220-7889 for tickets.
