Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Cyclones are working hard at earning the moniker ‘Comeback Kids'. Friday night, a 4-3 shootout win over Wheeling marked the eleventh come-from-behind win for the club. It also marked the fourth time the team has erased a two-goal deficit and won a game.

The Cyclones are unbeaten in regulation time in their last eleven at U.S. Bank Arena (9-0-2). Cincinnati has not absorbed a loss in regulation time at home since November 24.

A pair of goals from second year forward Matt Syroczynski led the way to victory for Cincinnati.

Wheeling opened the scoring when Sean Collins netted his eighth goal of the season at 4:48 on the power play. The Nailers extended the lead to 2-0, when Justin Chwedoruk took a turnover deep in the Cincinnati zone while shorthanded and buried a backhand shot for his eleventh goal of the campaign. The score came at 17:56. Just 25 seconds later, on the same power play, Matt Syroczynski picked up his twelfth goal of the year, re-directing a David Desharnais shot with Scott Reynolds adding the other assist. That made the score, 2-1, Wheeling, after twenty minutes.

The Cyclones scored a pair of second period power play goals to open a 3-2 edge. Syroczynski one-timed a shot from between the faceoff dots at 13:55 to tie the game at 2-2. Thomas Beauregard and Scott Reynolds added the assists. At 16:31 of the frame, Cory Urquhart put Cincinnati ahead for the first time at 3-2, snapping off his seventh goal of the campaign from the high slot, as Barret Ehgoetz and Jason Deitsch added the assists.

Collins collected his second goal of the night and ninth of the season at 13:07 on a penalty shot. That tied the game at three apiece and forced over time. In the extra frame, Dov Grumet-Morris made a sensational save midway though the frame to keep the game alive. It was one of 27 saves the third-year netminder made on the night.

In the shootout, Cincinnati got goals from Urquhart, Desharnais and the game clincher came from Jason Deitsch.

The Cyclones are 27-8-3 on the season, co-leaders of the North Division. Wheeling is 13-23-5. Cincinnati is 5-1 against the Nailers this season, including a 4-0 mark at U. S. Bank Arena.

The Cyclones finish off the two game set with Wheeling tomorrow night (Jan. 26) at 8pm at WesBanco Arena. That game can be heard on the Cyclones website: www.cycloneshockey.com. The club returns to U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night (Jan. 30), when the Charlotte Checkers come to town for a ‘Wet Wednesday' with selected brands of beers priced at one dollar for a twelve ounce can.
