Florida's Peters Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Justin Peters of the Florida Everblades is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 14-20. He also won the award for Nov. 26-Dec. 1 after going 3-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.67 and a save percentage of .959.

The 21 year old was 2-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 0.50 and a save percentage of .985 as Florida went 3-1-0 to improve to 23-14-3 and fourth place in the South Division.

Selected in the second round (38th overall) by Carolina in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and under NHL contract to the Hurricanes, the All-Star selection registered his first career shutout when he stopped all 39 shots in a 2-0 win at Pensacola on Jan. 19. He stepped back between the pipes on Jan. 20 and made 28 saves in a 3-1 win at Mississippi.

In his second professional season, the 6-foot-1 and 213-pound netminder is 15-7-2 with a goals-against average of 2.71 and a save percentage of .918 in 24 games for Florida while also playing in the American Hockey League where he is 3-0-0 with a goals-against average of 3.16 and a save percentage of .896 in four games with Albany.

Peters played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League and was 88-68-19 with eight shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.89 and a save percentage of .910 in 189 regular season games with Toronto St. Michael's and Plymouth from 2002-06.

Runners Up: Jeff Jakaitis, Columbia (1-0-1, 1.00 GAA, .951 save pct.) and Dave Caruso, Trenton (2-2-0, 1.64 GAA, .945 save pct.).
