Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, MS - Ryan Menei scored a power-play goal and Ryan Munce made 28 saves, but it wasn't enough as the Texas Wildcatters topped the Mississippi Sea Wolves 4-1 at Ford Arena in Beaumont, Texas on Friday evening.
Brandon Benedict opened the scoring for Texas just 1:28 into the first period when he grabbed a loose puck and wrapped around the cage with Ryan Munce out of position, tapping the puck into the open net to give Texas a 1-0 lead.
Benedict notched his second of the game, a shorthand goal that would stand as the game-winner, when Kevin Baker sprung him on a breakaway at the far blueline on the opening faceoff of a Mississippi power play. Benedict broke in alone on Ryan Munce and beat him low along the ice to give Texas a 2-0 lead at 3:05 of the second period.
The Wildcatters made it 3-0 when Max Taylor banged home the rebound of a shot from Scott Champagne at 12:58 of the third period. The Sea Wolves would cut the 'Catters lead to two when Ryan Menei tipped Chris Cava's shot from the point past Texas goaltender Anton Khudobin with Mississippi on the power play at 16:54. Ross Carolson would add an insurance goal for Texas at the 18:43 mark of the third period.
The Sea Wolves were 1-for-6 on the power play.
