Stingrays Topple Everblades in OT 3-2
Estero, FL - Pierre-Luc O'Brien scored just :35 seconds in overtime to give the South Carolina Stingrays a 3-2 victory over the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena in Estero, FL.
"I liked the way we played early," said Stingrays Head Coach Jared Bednar. "It was a little too run and gun for me by the end, [goaltender Davis] Parley played well all game."
The South Carolina Stingrays got things started early as Matt W. Reid scored on the Ray's first power play opportunity. Reid got the goal, his 14th of the season, from Mike Gabinet and Marty Guerin at 8:05 of the first period. Pat McNeill jumped right back in the line up as he scored his 4th goal of the season at 17:21 from Travis Morin and Guerin to give the Stingrays a 2-0 lead.
The lead would be cut in half during the second period as Preston Callander got his 8th goal of the season, on the power play, at 1:15. Callander now has five goals against the Stingrays in just three games.
The third period, much like the second, featured just one goal, coming from Florida, as Ryan Van Buskirk got his 3rd goal of the year to tie the game up at two. It would remain that way through regulation and the two teams were destined for overtime.
In overtime it took Pierre-Luc O'Brien just :35 seconds to get the game winning goal and give the Stingrays the 3-2 victory.
The winning goaltender was Davis Parley who stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was David Shantz who stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced. South Carolina went 1-4 on the power play, while killing off four of the five short handed situations they faced.
The Rays are back in action tomorrow night for the second game of a three game series against the Everblades. Game time will be at 7:30.
