Second Half of Season Starts Tomorrow at the Hangar

January 25, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Ice Pilots will begin the second half of the season tomorrow as they host the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. at the Hangar. It will be the first of a weekend home and home series against the Gladiators who the Ice Pilots have found success against of late. The Pilots are 2-1-1 in the last four meetings against Gwinnett while both of the wins have come on the road in Duluth, GA. Tomorrow's game will allow kids 12 and under to receive a free ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket.

Pensacola headed into the new year on a high note; winning three of four games and are looking to get back on track here in 2008. Cam Ellsworth who was acquired during the first week of December has brought stability and durability to the Ice Pilots goaltending situation. Ellsworth has allowed just three goals or less in seven of the nine games in January but the Pilots have only been able to score 12 goals in those nine contests. When scoring four or more goals in a game this season, Pensacola is 5-0-0.

Power plays have been huge to the success of the Pilots this season. Seven of the eight wins have come when the Ice Pilots score at least one power play goal in a game. Rookies have led the way this year for Pensacola as the top seven scorers on the club are all in their first full professional season. Mathieu Roy leads the team in scoring while Bryan Esner, Erik Fabian, Bryan McGregor and JC Sawyer are close behind. Sawyer represented the Ice Pilots in the All-Star Game on Wednesday night. Fabian has been red hot, averaging a point per game in the last 14 contests.

The Ice Pilots will take on the rival Mississippi Sea Wolves six more times this season with three of the meetings coming in the final week of the season. Augusta, Columbia, Charlotte and the Florida Everblades will all be visiting Pensacola for multiple games in the second half.

Don't miss the hard hitting, exciting action, as the Ice Pilots' next home game is Saturday, January 26 at 7:05 p.m. vs. Gwinnett at the Civic Center. Kids 12 and under can get a free ticket with one paid adult ticket. Group Tickets, Mini Plans, and Military Packages are still available through the Ice Pilots office.
