
Cyclones Receive Stephen Werner From Milwaukee

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The 2008 Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones, announced today that they have received forward Stephen Werner from Milwaukee (AHL). The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.
Werner, 24, played in 35 games for South Carolina last season netting six goals and 15 assists for 21 points. He was the third-leading point producer for the Stingrays during the Kelly Cup playoffs, tallying six goals and nine assists for 15 points in 19 postseason contests. Stephen also appeared in 38 games in the American Hockey League (AHL), between Hershey and Springfield and added ten goals and eight assists for 18 points there.
The six-foot-one, 210 pound native of Chevy Chase, MD, played collegiately at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. During that time (2002-03 through 2005-06), he appeared in 143 games and tallied 50 goals and 62 assists for 112 points. Werner spent his rookie season (2006-07) between Hershey and South Carolina
"Fans will remember that Stephen Werner as a dangerous offensive forward from last season," Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "He will be a welcomed addition to our lineup."
Werner is not expected to be in town in time for tonight's preseason game between the Cyclones and Dayton at SportsPlus (10765 Reading Rd., Evendale at 7:30pm). He could be in town in time for Saturday's tilt at Dayton (Kettering Rec Center at 2pm).
Tickets for the 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 144. The Cyclones open the season at Wheeling on Friday, October 17 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Dayton on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30pm. There will be a special Kelly Cup championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.
