Augusta Lynx News Release

AUGUSTA, Ga.− Jeff Mason scored two goals and added an assist as the Gwinnett Gladiators defeated the Lynx 5-2 in a preseason matchup on Friday night at James Brown Arena. Dallas Steward and Matt Auffrey tallied goals for the Lynx in the loss.

Gwinnett took advantage of first period power play opportunities as defensemen Jeff Mason and Marty Mjelleli netted goals to put the Gladiators up 2-0 after the opening frame.

The Gladiators added to their lead in the second when Mason found the back of the net for his second goal of the night to make it 3-0 in favor of the visitors. Just over two minutes later, the Lynx got on the board for the first time in the preseason. Steward rushed in from the left wing side and tipped the puck past Gwinnett goaltender Charlie Effinger to cut the lead to 3-1.

Preston Briggs made it a 4-1 game in the third with a fluttering shot that beat goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier. Matt Auffrey followed to make it a 4-2 game with his first goal of the preseason but Pat Bateman added some insurance in a 5-2 victory for Gwinnett.

Joel Martin made 19 saves on 21 shots in the first 30 minutes while Pelletier stopped 6 shots after replacing Martin. There were 23 total power plays in the game as Gwinnett scored four of their goals on the man advantage and the Lynx finished the game 1-for-10.

The Augusta Lynx begin their 11th season of play when they host the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Friday, Oct. 17th at 7:30 p.m. Fans coming for opening night are eligible to enter a raffle for a free Breitling watch and shopping spree courtesy of Windsor Jewelers and are eligible for a free gift from Carhartt, courtesy of Boots, Bridles and Britches.
