Wranglers Edge Condors In Preseason Tilt, 5-4 Shootout Win

LAS VEGAS, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Bakersfield Condors 5-4 in a shootout in a preseason game on Thursday night in front of 2,818 fans at the Orleans Arena. Wranglers' rookie forward Matt McKnight scored in regulation and sealed the win with the deciding shootout goal. Forwards Chris Neiszner, Peter Ferraro and Tyler Mosienko each scored in the shootout win. Winger Mike Hamilton and defenseman Sean Owens each had two assists. Las Vegas goalie John DeCaro made 14 saves in regulation and stopped all five Condors in the shootout for the victory. Bakersfield forwards Andrew Ianiero, Dave Bonk, Tyler Michel and Alexander Hult each scored in the Condors loss. Rookie goalie Joey Perricone made 25 saves in regulation and stopped four of five in the shootout for the loss. Las Vegas will play in Bakersfield this Saturday at 7:00 pm at Rabobank Arena in the teams' second preseason game.

In the first period, forward Matt McKnight opened the scoring with a power-play goal just 4:00 into the game. Defenseman Mike Madill fired a shot to the Bakersfield net. McKnight tipped the puck, redirecting the shot past Joey Perricone for the 1-0 lead. At 8:41, the Wranglers doubled the lead as forward Chris Neiszner redirected a Michael Beynon shot for the 2-0 Las Vegas lead. Bakersfield countered to trim the lead to 2-1 as Andrew Ianiero scored at 11:43. Las Vegas regained the two-goal lead as Peter Ferrao swatted a puck into the net at 15:09 for the 3-1 lead after one period of play.

In the second period, the Condors scored twice, tying the game 3-3. Just 1:29 into the middle frame, forward Alexander Hult pulled the Condors within a goal at 3-2. Bakersfield tied the game 3-3 at 12:50 as center Tyler Michel poked in a rebound for his first goal of the night.

In the third period, the Condors took a 4-3 lead as center Dave Bonk scored 3:30 into the period. Las Vegas countered at 7:04, center Tyler Mosienko scored his first of the preseason, tying the game 4-4 and forcing overtime.

After a scoreless overtime the two teams skated to a shootout. Las Vegas goalie John DeCaro stopped all five Condors in the shootout to preserve the victory. The lone Las Vegas shootout goal was scored by Matt McKnight.

The Wranglers have announced a total of 24 players in training camp for the 2008-09 Preseason. Defensemen Brandon Straub, Jim Jorgensen, Michael Beynon, Gerard Miller, Bret Tyler, Jason Dest, Mark Lutz and Mike Madill have all agreed to terms for 2008-09. Forwards Tim Spencer, Matt McKnight, Luke Hunter, Tyler Mosienko, Mike Hamilton, Jordan Hack, Adam Miller, Chris Ferraro, Peter Ferraro and Brandon Kaleniecki have also signed. Forwards Jimmy Kilpatrick and Chris Neiszner are signed to tryout agreements. Left wing Shawn Limpright continues to rehab from off-season surgery. Two-time Central Hockey League Goalie of the Year John DeCaro has also agreed to terms for the upcoming season. Defenseman Brandon Straub and forward Matt Beaudoin remain in the American Hockey League.

Las Vegas will play two more preseason games. The Wranglers will meet the Condors again at Rabobank Arena this Saturday, October 11th at 7:00 pm. Las Vegas will conclude its preseason schedule with a game in Ontario against the expansion Reign. The Wranglers will meet the Reign at 5:00 pm at the Center Ice Arena in Ontario, CA on Sunday, October 12th.

2008-09 season seat packages are on sale now at (702) 471-PUCK. The Wranglers play all 36 regular season home games at the Orleans Arena, located at the Orleans Hotel and Casino at 4500 W. Tropicana Avenue.

Opening night is scheduled for Thursday, October 23rd at the Orleans Arena. Individual game tickets are on sale now at (702) 284-7777.
