Trenton Devils News Release

ELMIRA, N.Y. (October 10, 2008) - Jim Henkel's shootout goal lifted the Trenton Devils to a 5-4 preseason win over the Elmira Jackals Friday night at First Arena.

Henkel's goal came in the seventh round of the shootout, after Tyler Burton and Pierre-Luc Faubert had traded goals earlier in the shootout.

Special teams played a key role in the Devils' win, as the power play went 2-for-7 and the Devils killed all of Elmira's seven power plays. Burton scored the game's first goal on the man advantage at the 2:39 mark of the first period.

The Jackals fired back with three straight goals in the first, until David Leaderer put home a rebound with 22 seconds left in the period to put Trenton within a goal.

In the second period, Eric Castonguay's power play tally tied the game at 5:19. 28 second later, Chris Poli's wrist shot from the face-off circle tied gave the Devils their second lead of the game at 4-3.

After the Jackals tied the game in the third, the Devils received some key saves by Jason Smith, who had 33 stops en route to the Devils' win in the shootout.

The Trenton Devils finish their preseason with another game against the Jackals on October 11 at 7:30pm. To tune in to the action, go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
